A lot has happened this past week in the world of online poker. Here are the top headlines you need to know. - PokerStars is ponying up the $10,000 plus $2,500 in travel and accommodation expenses for dozens of its players to play in the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event.
- Danish Gaming monopoly, Danske Spil is beginning to crumble under the threat of new European regulations.
- Absolute Poker has announced the inclusion of bounties in many of their online tournaments. The “Absolute Assassins” promotion is modeled after the popular WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars event and will also feature WSOP buy-in packages as prizes.
- The Isle of Man is seeking to stay in front of possible UIGEA type legislation by passing through new gambling legislation. The Bill will make the delinquency of excise payments on gambling moneys collectible through stronger governmental methods.
- Sun Poker is making online poker easier. The gaming site has introduced a new flash version of its poker room so players will no longer have to install anything to play. This includes a new Mac client as well.
- The newest edition of NBC’s Poker After Dark will feature 21 new players, two cash games and brand new host Leeann Tweeden.
- Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) and Representative Spencer Bachus (R-AL) have written a letter to Congress in support of the UIGEA.
- The annual UK “Rich List” is out, detailing and sorting the fortunes of the 150 wealthiest people in Britain. Party Poker founder/owner Anurag Dikshit is high on the list with a fortune topping well over $1.5 Billion.
