There are many online poker players that play multiple tables. Some play as many as 20 tables at a time. There are many advantages to playing multiple tables at one time. There are also many disadvantages to playing too many tables at once.
When an online poker player first starts out they have a hard enough time playing just one table. A player must get used to the online poker room's setup. It will often take a new player several sessions to get used to how online poker rooms operate. As time goes on new players start to learn the ins and outs of an online poker room's software. At this point a player may want to start playing two or three games at a time. This will help clear the first deposit bonus must faster. If the new player is a winning player then this will increase the win rate as well. For players that are very experienced it may not be fun to play just a few games at a time. Experienced player often need more games for more action to make online poker fun. Online poker players must be careful not to play too many games at once though.
Some poker players play 6, 8, 10 or even 20 games at one time. For each additional game you play you will lose a small edge. Not being able to pay attention to every detail of a game will hurt you a little for each extra game you are playing. Not knowing who the fish and sharks are and how they play can hurt your win rate. This is especially true in stud games as it is very important to track what cards are dead and which cards are still live.
Another reason to limit the number of games you play is because you will slow down the pace of the games. This not only lowers the enjoyment of the other players but slows down your pace as well. If you take too much time you will time out and have your hand folded. This can cause you to lose a big pot and over time can cost you a lot of money. For this reason most online poker rooms limit the number of games you are able to play. Some poker rooms limit the number of games you can play to three tables, others allow players to play as ten. If you are just starting out make sure that you do not play more tables then you can handle. You will probably not have good results and it may not give you the great first impression online poker should give players that enjoy live poker. Move up in the number of tables just as you would move up in limits, very carefully. Good luck at the tables.
