Hollywood Poker Overview
Hollywood Poker is one of the leading rooms on the OnGame poker network. Being on the OnGame network makes sure that there is plenty of traffic around the clock, although it does prevent Hollywood Poker from accepting customers from the United States. Using the OnGame software allows Hollywood Poker to offer a “no download” java client, so that you can play from any computer with an internet connection including Macintosh and Linux PCs. There is a regular downloadable client available as well.
Hollywood Poker has been online since 2004 and is endorsed by celebrity players James Woods and Vince Van Patten. They have weekly tournaments that their celebrities play in, and in which the celebrities are bounties. There is even an online poker magazine called “The Green Room” on the Hollywood Poker website with celebrity written poker related articles and poker celebrity news.
Hollywood Poker is a room on the OnGame network, along with other popular online poker rooms such as Eurobet Poker, Betsson Poker, and Poker Room.
Hollywood Poker Game Features
The usual selection of games is available, Texas Hold’em, Omaha, 5 card draw, and 7 card stud with some hi/lo variants. However, players on the OnGame network seem to mainly prefer to play hold’em so it is somewhat difficult to find a table going at one of the other games except at low limits. As long as you’re mostly a fixed limit or no limit hold’em player you should be set, and if you do enjoy the other games they are usually quite soft when they are going. The play on the hold’em tables is pretty poor, especially at the lower limits. An experienced player can clean up pretty easily there.
Hollywood Poker has exclusive celebrity tournaments several times a week, with bounties paid out based on how many celebrities you take out from the tournament. You also have access to all of the tournaments that are run on the OnGame network. The selection of multi-table tournaments is not as great as other more popular rooms, but it is still quite respectable. There are many lower buy-in tournaments that run regularly on the OnGame network so if you’re not a high roller yet this is a great place to practice and build a bankroll. Sit & Go tournament traffic is excellent for low and medium stakes but somewhat sparse at the higher levels. The lobby can be frustrating sometimes as it can be difficult to register before a table fills up, but this is usually only at peak hours.
Hollywood Poker Software Features
The downloadable client for Hollywood Poker has been steadily improving but is still somewhat slow with occasionally bugs. The java client is functional but lacks many of the features of the downloadable client. Overall the software works decently and has nearly all the features that a normal user would want, with a few minor annoyances.
The lobby provides a well divided interface that makes it easy to find the specific area that you are interested in, although it does not always update as frequently as it should to be completely up to date. This can lead to wasted time trying to join full tables or Sit & Go tournaments that have already started. The tables are very nice looking and the action is pretty quick. You can customize the appearance of the tables to include a 4 color deck, less animation, or even to use a “mini table” in case you want to play many tables at the same time.
Hollywood Poker Support
Hollywood Poker provides excellent customer support through email and live chat. Their staff is prompt and knowledgeable and they are able to quickly answer nearly any question you might have.
