Gnuf Poker Overview
Gnuf Poker, established in 2006, is part of the Microgaming Poker Network family of sites (formerly known as Prima), which is a medium to large network with about 20k total players on at peak times. Besides having very good traffic, Gnuf is also very good for soft games, since Microgaming offers a full casino that is seamlessly connected to the poker site.
Gnuf has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere which is expressed in their welcome to new players: “There’s no place like home. We move far from the ugly-side-of-rich city Vegas into the place where we feel most at ease; home. At home, you enjoy playing without the stereotypical package that comes with gaming; gold chains, dollar bills, loud noises, flashing lights, plastic boobs, and nasty buffets. Here, you can kick back, invite friends, hang out with other players, throw a party, live life and set your own rules. Simply put - A place to call your own.”
They share the same player base and software platform with all the other skins on the Microgaming network, so if you have played at sites such as Doyles Room or Poker Host, you will feel right at home.
Gnuf Poker Game Features
Gnuf Poker offers No Limit, Pot Limit, and Fixed Limit Texas Hold’em, Pot Limit and Fixed Limit Omaha Hi and Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, and 5 Card Stud. Stakes range from micro ‘’Beginners Games” for a nickel all the way up to $100/$200. Tables for ring games come with 2,5,6,8 or 10 seats.
Gnuf Poker also has plenty of Sit & Go and Scheduled tournaments to choose from. Many Sit & Go options are available, from standard 10-person contests to short-handed, heads-up, and multi-table games. Additionally, Gnuf Poker has “Rounders” tables, special Sit & Gos which give players the chance to win big money for a small buy-in. They also offer an ‘Extreme Stack’ Sit & Go format where the starting chip count is 2,000 and stakes increase every 10 minutes.
Multi-Table tournaments are also plentiful at Gnuf Poker. They have guaranteed prize pools all the way up to the big $200k ‘Sunday Showdown’, as well as re-buys, freezeouts, and freerolls. The structure at Gnuf Poker is good, too – players start with 1,500 chips and blinds only go up every twelve minutes, so there is plenty of time to play. Like most online poker rooms, Gnuf Poker holds tournaments in which players can win seats to prestigious live poker events.
Gnuf Poker Software Features
As part of the Microgaming Network, Gnuf Poker’s software is the same as in many other Microgaming sites, and it offers most of the standard features: text history account of the table action that scrolls up the right side of the card room, text display of your hand rank, a chat window, statistics and note taking. On the other hand, there are no avatars available, no unnecessary table graphics, and no buddy list.
Gnuf, like many other sites, has a Bad Beat jackpot with a running counter that can be seen from every table and even the lobby.
Gnuf Poker Support
Gnuf Poker offers customer service via e-mail and toll free telephone numbers from a host of countries. Customer service representatives are generally helpful and friendly when dealt with on live chat, but there have been some quality issues with e-mail responses (although response time is usually fast).
